Adam and Eve, the first parents, had two sons named Cain, a farmer, and Abel, a shepherd. When they brought offerings to God, Abel gave the best of his herd from his heart, while Cain’s offering was not accepted. Overcome with anger and jealousy, Cain killed his brother Abel, an act witnessed by God, who sees everything. As punishment for his sin, God sent Cain away to live as a homeless wanderer on the earth, marking him for protection while separating him from His presence.
