Years after Joseph’s time, a new Pharaoh feared the growing number of Hebrews in Egypt and ordered all their baby boys to be killed. One mother hid her son for as long as possible before placing him in a basket on the river, where he was discovered by Pharaoh’s daughter. The princess chose to keep the baby and unwittingly hired his own mother to be his nurse, naming him Moses because she had pulled him out of the water. Raised in the palace, Moses would eventually grow up with a unique destiny to lead the Hebrew people out of slavery and back to their promised land.
