Moses grew up as a prince in Egypt but remained aware of the suffering of his people, who were living as overworked slaves under a cruel king. One day, after witnessing a soldier mistreating a Hebrew slave, Moses intervened and accidentally killed the soldier, forcing him to flee into the desert to escape the king’s punishment. For forty years, Moses lived in the wilderness as a shepherd, a period during which the Israelites continued to cry out to God for rescue from their misery. God heard their prayers and prepared a plan to use Moses to deliver His people from their long years of bondage.
